Class Experience

- Most Leaners will use this 1:1 on-going class (4 meetings with the option to stay on for addition practice) INSTEAD of taking my one-time classes for Typing 101, 102, and 103. These are private lessons for those classes, plus additional attention and activities.

- Students will learn and review the letters in each row of the keyboard. We will talk about which fingers press which keys and talk about proper posture. I typically utilize the Zoom chat for learners to respond, so they can continue practicing finger placement. There may be times throughout the four meetings when we utilize Padlet, Kahoot, or an open Google Doc or Slide. I will also suggest some typing games they can use to practice on their own. I like kids to feel protected when it comes to sharing their ideas, so I always give the option for public sharing, but they can privately share their answers with me for participation.

- We will talk about words that you can make using certain keys. They'll practice typing those words a few times while focus on using the correct fingers, and then we will make sentences using those words. There will also be theme or picture prompts for challenges where they use that in combination with a row of keys are specific words or letters that they need to include in their answers. I'm happy to help kids brainstorm since the focus is on using the correct finger placement. The creative writing should not be stressful. I will guide them through if they are stuck or need help spelling.
- Kids are not meant to be proficient at the end of this course. This course is meant to familiarize the learners with the keyboard and be able to locate the letter more quickly than when they began working with me.

*Students will be helped with any spelling obstacles since our focus it on using the correct keys and not about spelling.

Topics:

Week 1 - Home row focus: Memorizing and practicing typing words using those letters while using the correct fingers

Week 2 - Top row focus: Memorizing and practicing typing words using those letters while using the correct fingers. Coming up with sentences using some of those words (and all of the keyboard).

Week 3 - Bottom row focus: Memorizing and practicing typing words using those letters while using the correct fingers. Coming up with sentences using words with those letters (and all of the keyboard).

Week 4 - Whole keyboard: Use picture prompts to brainstorm sentences or ideas to type while focusing on finger placement.

*Note that missed classes are not within the parameters of Outschool's refund policy. Thank you in advance for understanding.

After week 4, it will be up to the family if they'd like to continue or not with open typing practice on a weekly basis.

*Kahoot, Padlet, Jamboard and Docs/Slides maybe be used in these sessions depending upon time and the learners.
Learning Goals
Students will improve at locating the letters on the keyboard and using the correct fingers for the correct keys. Some kids may be able to recite the keyboard by heart after all four sections.
