I've been studying science all my life. My father was a renowned herpetologist. As such, I grew up surrounded by animals, plants, and other life forms. I followed my interests in college by studying biology as well as education. I taught middle school science for 21 years, then worked as the middle school science education specialist for the State Department of Education in Alabama for 6 years. In that capacity, I trained teachers in Earth and space science, biology, and physical science. Now retired, I am still actively involved in many scientific communities, and stay engaged with groups such as the North American Association for Environmental Education and the National Science Teachers Association. I am passionate and knowledgeable about the study of life, and about passing on this passion to youngsters.
Students who enjoy doodling and writing may want to bring a dedicated notebook to this class. My favorite are composition notebooks, which are bound and will not fall apart.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
We may use Kahoot in our class. Kahoot is a COPPA approved resource which does not collect or save data on individual participants. Learners can play directly from their device; no need to split a screen or have a second device.

When watching videos, I share my screen. Students do not leave the platform. Slides are presented via PowerPoint, created by me.
We may visit educational websites for no less than 2 minutes, or watch very short clips from YouTube. I will vet any visits and views. This will be done through sharing my screen. Students will not leave the platform.
