Class Experience

Students will learn to observe carefully, gather interesting information, reflect on ideas, and be creative. As they create their writer's notebook, they will develop their writing voice, improve writing fluency, and perfect idea development.
My 30 years in public education included teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade language arts as well as serving as a language arts instructional coach and instructional specialist. I embraced the teachings of writing instruction leaders like Nancy Atwell, Ralph Fletcher, Penny Kittle, Jeff Anderson, Kelly Gallagher, and Jennifer Serravallo as I designed this course.
In addition to watching the 2 videos each week (a total of 15-30 minutes), students will spend an additional 30 minutes to one hour completing the assigned writing. Additional ideas will be provided to those students who wish to write daily..
Students will be encouraged to have a writer's notebook. This could be any type of notebook. Students will have the option of creating a digital notebook if they prefer, but the teacher modeling will be with a composition notebook.
Individualized feedback from the teacher will be provided to each student's submitted writing response each week. Students will have the opportunity to leave positive feedback each week to the shared posts in the classroom.
No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
