In this class we will discuss Unlocked, the newest book in the Keeper of the Lost Cities series. We discuss the book at length so make sure your child has read and has a copy of the book so we don't give away any plot lines or any spoilers. We will debate the following subjects about the book: -- Did we have some questions answered? -- Who are the major characters in this book? --Are there any new abilities? --What will the Neverseen and the Black Swan do next? --Have any characters changed? --Do you still have the same favorite characters? --Who's perspective are we reading the book from? --Do you feel like it is a good place holder book until we get book 10? --Do you love it, hate it or are you somewhere in the middle? --We will discuss inference and what we can infer at the end of the book. This class will need a minimum of 3 students, so they can discuss how they feel about the newest book in the Keeper of the Cities series. If we don't meet that minimum I can transfer your student to another time slot.
Learning Goals
Students will learn:
--How to carry on a group discussion.
--Highlights of the newest book in the Keeper series.
--About 1st verses 3rd person narration.
--About inference.

Teacher expertise and credentials
North Carolina Teaching Certificate in Foreign Language
I fell in love with the first Keeper of the Lost Cities book about 3 1/2 years ago and then shared the great story with my 4 daughters. Since then we have read all the books in the series multiple times, listened to the series on Audible, and gone to see Shannon Messenger in person and had her sign several of our books!
I graduated with a BA in English and Spanish for secondary school teaching and planned to teach high school English. I ended up teaching English as a Second Language to ages 7-15. I have taught ESL as a public school teacher and in private settings. I have taught many book studies to ages 8-17 including but not limited to: The Old Man and the Sea, Lord of the Flies, Where the Red Fern Grows, Badge of Courage, The Great Gatsby, The Call of the Wild, The Outsiders, The Scarlet Letter, Tom Sawyer, and others. Reading is one of my passions and I love sharing that with my children and my students.
