This program is meant to bridge the gap for readers who may feel a little big for storytimes but are not yet ready for a full book group. Learners will begin by discussing the Rainbow Magic chapter book Kayla the Pottery Fairy: what was interesting, if anything was confusing, any other stories it may resemble, etc. Discussion is intentionally a mix of literature comprehension questions and also an opportunity for readers to get to know one another and bring their own creative thoughts to the table. After discussion we will move on to some fairy-themed word games, using engaging props and visuals like stuffies and Bananagrams tiles to keep both the socializing and the learning moving. We will conclude our adventure by creating sculptures! NOTE: The art portion of this class is intended as an opportunity for each learner to relax, experiment, and express themself. We won’t be going over specific sculpture or pottery techniques, and each learner’s artwork will look totally different. Students are encouraged to use art supplies they already have on hand!
