Class Experience
This class is designed for students that have already learned hiragana, and wish to continue their Japanese writing studies. Katakana is a Japanese phonetic writing system used for loan words (foreign words), onomatopoeias, and expression in written dialogue like mangas. I taught ESL (English as a Second Language) in South Korea and Japan for seven years. My specialty is using fun games and activities to help students retain content. Language learning is a long and intimidating process, so I want to keep a positive environment and always encourage students. I am currently in the process of obtaining an MA in Applied Linguistics, which means that I am up to date on language learning techniques, and willing to continue honing my skills. I also have a background in theatre education, which means I keep things upbeat and energetic in the classroom.
In between lessons students will have worksheets so that they can apply what they have learned. They will also have the opportunity to use Flipgrid so that they can read out loud.
-Pencil and paper (either notebook or graph paper is recommended) -Homework will be offered, but a printer is not required. Students have the option of writing their assignments on their own paper if you are unable to print.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
