Description
Class Experience
1. Students will improve their focus, balance, and coordination through martial arts drills. 2. Students will draw connections between martial arts concepts and real-life applications.
Hi, I'm Emily, known to my students as Ms. D. I began my martial arts journey when I was 7 years old and am now a 4th degree Black Belt in American Kenpo Karate. I started teaching martial arts to children in 2006 and this experience inspired me to attend University and hone my skills through the completion of my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
Students should plan to practice their karate skills for 10 minutes at least twice per week in addition to class. There will also be reflection worksheets for students to complete in relation to the weeks life lesson. These should take at most 10 minutes to complete.
Access to a printer to print the Life Lesson Sheets. A small throw pillow or something similar that we will utilize in our warm ups.
There will be no formal assessments, but I will provide individualized feedback on students progress in class and on their life lesson reflections!
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
To ensure student safety, parent/guardian supervision is strongly recommended for this class. Lack of supervision may result in injury. Before class please ensure that the student has a safe environment for practice (a clear space: free of furniture, toys, pets, other people, etc.) and that the device is set up properly with a view of the whole student so that the instructor can provide proper feedback. Students should wear comfortable athletic clothing to class such as sweatpants, or track pants. Students should wear a short sleeve T-shirt, so the instructor can give proper feedback in wrist positioning, and be barefoot for proper kicking form. Access to a water bottle or preferred form of hydration is also recommended.
