Class Experience

This ongoing course is a course in Shotokan Karate. Karate is a form of self defence which originated in Japan, meaning empty hand. Shotokan is a one of the 4 main styles within Karate.

Over the weeks children will learn basic punches, strikes, blocks, stances and kicks. We will also cover various topics such as kata (forms), kumite (sparring drills) and self defence techniques.

The class will start with a quick warm up, mobilization and stretch to get the body warm and to do our best to avoid injury. We will then progress into the main content of the class and normally finish up with some kind of a game and a quick chat to finish.

My teaching style will be very upbeat and fairly fast paced due to the age range and the time span of the class. I will keep the class very interactive allowing the child to react and respond over the screen, almost like we are sparring.

No experience needed but someone with previous experience is more than welcome.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of Kihon (basics), Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring).

Parental Guidance
Assumption of Risks For Remote & Online Learning By entering my child into this class I agree to the assumption of risk form in the capacity as a parent or guardian. I do so in relation to my wishes for them to participate within an online class, seminar, or to use online material provided by Danny Jordan-Land. I confirm that I understand in full that any activity in which my child participates will carry inherent risks associated with any practice within combat arts, martial arts and self defence. Furthermore, I understand that learning via a remote training basis will limit my instructor(s) and/or clubs ability to monitor and supervise as fully as might usually be expected if learning in person. I understand that my instructor(s) and/or club can not be held liable for injury or harm that occurs my child whilst practicing remotely. I understand it is my responsibility as a parent or guardian to provide full supervision and moderation throughout any lessons or remote content and it is my responsibility to ensure the designated training area is clear of hazards and obstacles, and that my child is in good health, ready to complete the training with my parental supervision. I confirm that I understand the nature of the activity, and appreciate that any practice of combat, self defence or martial art usually includes a degree of martial arts based fitness training relevant to the age of the student. By your child participating you agree that they are fit to participate and agree to assume all risks associated with the above, hereby withdrawing any liability from Danny Jordan-Land. Should I be unclear on any risks involved, or not feel comfortable releasing the above named instructor from all positions of liability, I will not proceed further with these classes and will instead raise a query with Danny Jordan-Land. Please take my child's participation as my acceptance and assumption of all risks involved on behalf of my child as described to me by my instructor and stated within this document. Additional Notes for Class: The session should be done in loose fitting clothing e.g. t-shirt and bottoms. The student should also train in bare feet. The student should have an open space to move around in. The screen should be clearly positioned, so the instructor can see the student and offer guidance.
