Students who attend all four sections of class will: - learn the names of the parts of the kalimba. - learn how to properly hold and care for the kalimba. - play at least four songs on the kalimba over the course of our meetings. - play songs in two musical keys (C major and A minor)
Ms. Sandra is a long-time educator with an interest in music-making for personal enjoyment and community connections. She loves working with young people and supporting their development of independent musical skills and personal expression.
No homework is required, although learners are encouraged to try to play their songs outside of class.
Each learne should have a KALIMBA. All songs in this class will be playable on a 17 key kalimba. If a learner has a 21 or 34 key kalimba, they would also work for class. This class is NOT suitable for an 8 key instrument. Both hollow and "flat" (non-hollow) kalimbas are suitable for this class.
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
