This class is for kaiju fans who want to practice their skills by writing about their interests in a small group setting. Each week will come with a new prompt, rotating between the three main purposes for writing: to entertain, to inform, and to persuade. Sample prompts for each style include: To inform - Tell us about Godzilla's atomic breath. Week of Jan. 30th To persuade - ___ is the most villainous kaiju villain because... Week of Feb. 6th To entertain - Tell us about a regular day in the life of a kaiju. First, then, after that... Week of Feb. 13th To inform - Teach us about Kong Week of Feb. 27th To persuade - The best version of Mechagodzilla is ____. Week of March 6th To entertain - Godzilla's vacation. Where does he go? What does he do when he is on a break from being a kaiju? Week of March 20th To inform - Summarize a problem from the kaiju film of your choosing. What was the problem? Who were the characters involved? Was it solved? Week of March 27th To persuade - What is the most powerful version of Godzilla and why? Week of April 3rd To entertain - Tell a story explaining what is going on in this picture (kaiju bumper cars). Week of April 24th To entertain - describe a birthday party for Anguirus Week of May 1 To inform - describe MUTOs using a picture prompt Week of May 8 To persuade - the best kaiju ability is...because Week of May 15 To entertain - write a story to explain this picture (Godzilla figures lined up). A review of the week's style of writing will take place at the beginning of each lesson, as well as a discussion of pre-writing and organization strategies. Students will then be introduced to their prompt and given time for brainstorming and pre-writing (about 5 minutes). Students will then have about 15 minutes of writing time (in addition to the 5 minutes of pre-writing) during which they are free to share their ideas, ask questions, show their progress on their paper or via screen share, and be offered feedback on organization, content, and writing conventions if needed. The last five minutes of each class will be reserved for sharing. Learners are encouraged to read their work aloud to the class but it is not required. I do request a document be submitted to me via private message after class (word document or photo of written work) so that I can provide feedback and monitor progress/tailor lessons to group needs. Again, this is encouraged but not required. Learning with kaiju is so fun and I'm looking forward to writing with your learner!

Hello! My name is Rebecca and I LOVE teaching! I have a B.S. in Education and an M.S. in Reading Education. I love creating and adapting my own curricula to make learning engaging and fun for the virtual learner and believe that providing interactive, organized, and thoughtful instruction in a supportive environment can pave the way for even the most hesitant student. It is my philosophy that learning happens in many ways, so, naturally, teaching should, too! My classes incorporate a variety of teaching tools to provide for different learning styles.
