US Grade Kindergarten - 1
This tutoring class has options to meet once or twice a week. In these specialized one-on-one tutoring sessions, I put your learner first by focusing on their specific reading strengths and needs, and engage students by including activities that reflect their interests. After learning which letters and sounds your student is comfortable with, we begin to read CVC words using those letter/sounds to build confidence. We learn to recognize how each letter sound is a building block to make words. We learn to blend sounds together and progress to word families. For example, if you can read " cat" you can also read "hat". While using these skills and building confidence, less familiar letters/ sounds will be introduced and included in a natural way. We will also learn sight words which will help your learner string their CVC words together into sentences they can read with confidence. We will play games and have varied activities throughout each class. Learners will participate in listening, speaking, writing, and movement activities to reinforce their learning of the reading and writing skills. Parents will receive feedback after each class which may include recommendations for further practice. Reflected below is a typical timeline which can be adjusted to meet your learner's specific needs. This focused one-on one instruction in a fun and caring environment meets your student where they are and builds from there. *Please note: When I first meet with your learner, we will go over all of the letter and sounds of the alphabet, so I can see which ones your learner is most comfortable with, then we will begin the schedule below the following week. I make this interactive and fun, and it gives our tutoring a great start! *Also note: The schedule below is for tutoring twice a week. If we meet once a week, we may need to cover fewer letters per week depending on the needs of the learner. Date: Skills May 15-23: Short vowels A, O, letter and sound recognition, CVC words, word families, short sentences, read a CVC book May 22-28: Short vowels I, U, letter and sound recognition CVC words, word families sight words, short sentences, read a CVC book May 29-June 4: Short Vowel E, Consonants B, C, D .
