About the Class: This is a super fun class that teaches students all about dinosaurs! We will look at the well known and not so well known species of dinosaurs, their characteristics, what they ate, and more. This is not an intermediate class but for students who enjoy learning about dinosaurs and sharing their passion with other dino lovers. About the Teacher: I LOVE dinosaurs and have studied them for years. I am also a certified teacher with two Master's degrees, so I love sharing not only my knowledge but my passion for dinosaurs. About this Camp: This class is geared towards students who have a love for dinosaurs but are not experts. Following class each week, I will put a message in the Outschool classroom with activities to do for fun. There will be a scavenger hunt, other activities and a final fun discovery project. For the project, your student wil choose a dinosaur from my list and investigate it. They will share their findings in the final class. Parents are welcome to help in their project and in sharing. Class 1 -Introductions -Favorite Dinosaurs -3 main time periods when dinosaurs lived -Well-known favorite dino species we love and some of the not-so-well-known ones. -End class with each student sharing one cool fact they know about dinosaurs that we did not cover (if they want to). -Show and tell with anything dinosaur-related they have. They can bring 2-3 dino-related items to class to show us! (If we do not finish show and tell, we will finish in the final class. ) The first half of class is filled with info for students to learn, discussion, videos (including movie clips from the movies) and some fun questions. Project: Students will pick a dinosaur from my list at the end of class 1 that we did not cover, and create a fun project around that dinosaur. There are hands-on options and a guide to help you. They will present those in the final class and tell us about their dino. They can create these however they want: paper, poster, on the computer. Please help them put the info in fact form and not a paragraph they are reading. My goal is to get them looking for information and researching things and get to share it in a fun way! Activity at Home: Students will be sent on a fun scavenger hunt outside and inside that is dinosaur related. I will have them take pictures with or collect items and they can show them and discuss this in the next class. Class 2 -Share the facts they found and do their dinosaur presentations at the start of class. -Talk about the dinosaur bones that have been found and see some put together which are really cool to see. -Have some fun discussion on their scavenger hunt -Fun discussion questions I will ask them. -End the class with fun trivia, would you rather questions, and videos Helpful Information Please let your student know that I love participation but require them to raise their hands to speak. This keeps order in class and lets everyone get a say who wants one. Just let younger students know they need to raise their hands in class. Refund and Pause Policy: 1. If a makeup class is set by me due to a change on my end, you will not receive a refund. You can access recordings and all resources. 2. Transfers or refunds must be requested 2 weeks in advance of the beginning of the class. Otherwise, the transfer or refund will not be granted. This class runs in high demand in the summer.
Learning Goals
Students will leave class having an enjoyable experience with friends and sharing their love of dinosaurs.
