Class Experience

The goal of this class is to help students develop the skills and confidence needed to deliver engaging presentations. Through interactive activities and practical instruction, students will learn how to organize their thoughts, use their voice and body language effectively, and connect with their audience to leave a lasting impression. By the end of the class, students will have the tools they need to speak confidently in front of others and share their ideas with the world.
As a social studies and technology teacher with years of experience, I bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to the presentation skills class. My understanding of history and human behavior, as well as my proficiency in digital tools and communication, enable me to effectively guide students through the process of developing their presentation skills. I have a proven track record of helping students craft compelling and engaging presentations that showcase their knowledge and understanding of complex ideas and concepts. My approachable and supportive teaching style, combined with my ability to provide constructive feedback and encouragement, creates a safe and welcoming environment that empowers students to succeed.

Students in this one-time presentation skills course will be assessed on their ability to deliver a confident and engaging presentation to their peers. The assessment will be based on a rubric that evaluates the following criteria:

Organization: The ability to structure the presentation in a clear and logical manner, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion.

Content: The ability to develop interesting and relevant ideas that are appropriate for the audience, and support them with examples and evidence.

Delivery: The ability to use effective vocal and nonverbal communication techniques, including voice projection, eye contact, and body language, to engage the audience.

Engagement: The ability to connect with the audience and maintain their interest throughout the presentation, through the use of humor, storytelling, and other engaging techniques.

Overall Effectiveness: The ability to create a memorable and impactful presentation that effectively conveys the intended message and achieves its purpose.

The rubric will be shared with students at the beginning of the class to provide clear expectations for assessment, and students will have the opportunity to practice their skills throughout the class before delivering their final presentation for assessment. The rubric will be used to provide detailed feedback to students, highlighting areas of strength and areas for improvement, and providing suggestions for how to continue developing their presentation skills.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Having your student present live on Zoom can be nerve-wracking, but rest assured that we will take measures to create a safe and supportive environment for all students. My class is designed to help students build their confidence and develop their presentation skills in a positive and encouraging atmosphere. I am experienced in guiding students through the presentation process and will provide personalized feedback and support to help your student succeed. Additionally, I will provide clear instructions and guidelines to ensure that the presentation runs smoothly and all participants are respectful of each other's contributions.
