Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Standard poetic forms introduced may include the following, however, the teacher will be introducing new (modern) and unlisted forms: Haiku, Rhyming Couplets, Sonnets, Fibbonacis, Cinquains, List, Skeletonic, Acrostic, Alphabet, Blitz, Dodoitsu, Found, Limerick, Lai, Nonet, and more!

Students will need to use flexible thinking and be prepared to try new things each week. It is possible we will be working on a poetic form they are familiar with or have mastered. In this case, practice is still encouraged.
The instructor has been teaching English language and writing composition for six years, in addition to working in childrens' and professional theatre. She is a practicing songwriter and award-winning novelist. She holds a Master's in Organizational Leadership from Grand Canyon University, specializing in the promotion of effective teamwork and expansion of human potential. Previous students have successfully published their own works in addition to winning creative writing contests for youth.
1. There is no homework assigned other than the expectation to be on the lookout for announcements in the class comments such as downloadable visual organizers that may help with the week's task.
2. Due to the variability of each student's writing speed, they may or may not have sufficient time to complete the day's activity to their satisfaction in the time allotted. It is possible they may need to finish the task on their own. If needed, students can rewatch a class recording for additional support.
Please have paper and pen/pencils during classes (or an open Word Doc or Google Doc). Visual organizer handouts may be provided to assist with developing writers.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No formal grades will be provided.
Academic subjects supported: English language, writing composition, public speaking, math/counting, artistic expression, theatre/acting skills.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Class Rules:
Enrolled Students Only.
Cameras On (unless the teacher approves a parent’s request).
Microphones Muted (if there is background noise).
No Foul Language or Gestures Allowed.

Content Disclaimer and Release of Liability:
1. Students may be exposed to political, religious, or otherwise controversial themes in peer creations. The teacher accepts NO liability for the material created by students.
2. By participating in this class, parents automatically assume full responsibility to address personal beliefs with their own students and assume full liability for the works produced by their own student. NO REFUNDS will be made for real or perceived offenses taken from student creations.
3. If, in the teacher’s best judgment, a student’s subject matter is inappropriate for the age range present, the teacher will do their best to stop the student’s sharing and offer an alternative submission option in the form of a private message, that can be evaluated strictly on writing technique as outlined in the assignment.
4. Repeated use of inappropriate words or themes may result in the student's removal from class with NO REFUND.
Please have paper and pen/pencils during classes (or an open Word Doc or Google Doc). Visual organizer handouts may be provided to assist with developing writers.
