Students will participate in lively discussions and games in this introduction to philosophy. We will consider the world through multiple lenses, debate truth and reality, and explore the writings of Plato. Session 1: We will look at perspective, how we know what something is and what makes it that thing. Session 2: We will read and discuss Plato's the Allegory of the Cave. Session 3: We will play the "What's Your Reason" game as we explore truth and reality. Session 4: We will read and discuss Plato's the Ring of Gyges. Session 5: We will explore aesthetics by looking at and discussing works of art. Session 6: We will play the Moral Spectrum game as we consider the major branches of Western Philosophy.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to think about and talk about their assumptions and consider alternative perspectives.
