Let's have fun with dinosaur facts in this weekly dino-themed challenge club. We'll explore the monsters of the Mesozoic Era as we play games, move our bodies, share favorite toys/books/facts about dinos, and meet other dino-enthusiasts.

Class experience

Beginner Level
Students will practice their recall skills, as well as presentation, communication, and social skills. They will develop the ability to follow directions and meet challenges in a fun, light-hearted environment. They will practice vocabulary such as Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous, Mesozoic, timeline, carnivore, herbivore, piscivore, omnivore, theropod, sauropod, predator, extinction, and more, as well as countless individual dinosaur names.
Shiny Happy Kids teachers have been working with students ages 3-18 in a variety of settings, from art schools and STEAM labs to libraries, summer camps, forest school, and even RPG game tables. One thing we all have in common is a dedication to creating safe, positive, inclusive spaces and experiences where kids can connect, experiment, be challenged, share their passions, and just be their wonderful selves. We want you to SHINE!

From Miss Alex: I'm so excited to share my love of all things DINOSAUR with you! I've been teaching STEAM and art classes through fun, engaging topics like these to preschool through middle school for 8 years through an independent STEAM education company, as well as at a local arts facility. I'm really looking forward to connecting with new students here on Outschool. Not only will we be learning about dinosaurs (yay!)--but we'll sneak in some observation, comparing and contrasting, art and building skills and more--all things that young paleontologists love to learn and practice!
Shiny Happy Kids is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, affirming space for all kinds of learners. Growing up as ND and gifted kids, our ND teachers understand the need for classrooms where everyone gets to shine!
Basic dinosaur knowledge is encouraged, but we welcome everyone to come and learn with us through play!
--Show-and-tell item related to the theme (book, toy, or fact to share)
--Assorted dinosaur toys (recommended but not required)
--Access to a color printer may sometimes be requested--please reach out to the instructor if you do not have one so we can figure it out together.
--Creative building/drawing/sculpting materials (ie paper and markers, plastic building bricks or other construction toys, clay or playdough, etc)
--Dice (6-sided) -- we won't always use it, but we often do
Each week, I will post the materials you will need to have ready to use a day before class begins, They will always be from the list above. Please reach out if you have any concerns. Please see allergy warning in the "Parental Guidance" section.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
We will discuss relevant topics such as carnivores as meat-eaters, extinction, volcanos that are part of the natural world but may be upsetting to some sensitive learners. Please be assured that all content will be presented in a sensitive, age-appropriate manner.

Regarding supplies/activities:
Movement activities are basic in nature (animal moves, etc) but please be sure to provide adult supervision if you feel it is necessary. Participation in movement activities is no required. Please contact the teacher with any concerns.
All challenges will be age-appropriate in their nature and execution.
Allergy Note: Playdough may contain wheat, which could cause an allergic reaction if ingested in those sensitive to wheat gluten or with Celiac disease. I am happy to provide a recipe for gluten-free playdough upon request, or suggest alternative supplies.
