Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Have you ever dreamed of designing your own theme park or exciting new attractions? This is the place for imaginative kids to share their plans and work together on ideas for theme parks. Each week we will have a design challenge to work on, from working on adapting a popular movie into ride or remodeling an existing attraction. We'll talk about all elements from the story, to the queue, the ride, the ride vehicles, the music, the script, to even merchandising opportunities. Sometimes, the design challenges will have specific criteria such as making sure it's an attraction for the whole family or that it can't take a large amount of space. The idea is to imagine ourselves as the designers of these great attractions and what we would do if we were placed in their shoes.

The discussion-style format will allow for all students to share their different opinions and approaches to these creative challenges, and students will be encouraged to use our story format and worksheets to fully flesh out all their ideas. Often, students will disagree on the best way to tackle the projects which will let students see different points of view and learn how to have creative discussions.

Each week will also highlight a famous theme park attraction such as Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney Hollywood Studios, Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland Park, Spaceship Earth at Epcot, Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney's Animal Kingdom, Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure, Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey at Islands of Adventure, Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Florida, Mystery Mine at Dollywood, and Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City.

Students should have a basic knowledge of theme parks, as we will be using a lot of industry knowledge (ride types, comparing to similar attractions, basic safety features, etc) in our discussions.
