Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
The class will begin with a short presentation on Irish history, which will include history of St. Patrick's day, and the potato famine which drove a lot of Irishmen to emigrate. I will share with learners a story of one of my Irish ancestors who came to America in the early twentieth century. Students who know stories of their Irish ancestors will be invited to share. We will then use FamilySearch Discovery activities to explore our family trees to look for Irish ancestors. Quizzes and games will be sprinkled throughout the lesson.

I have an associate's degree in family history research and I'm part Irish. According to one DNA test, I'm 3% Irish; according to another DNA test, I'm 6.6% Irish. I'd err on the larger percentage because of how much I eat potatoes.
