Description
Class Experience
This is an introductory course specially created for PreK, Kindergarten and 1st grade students. The subject matter will be adapted to suit their educational and developmental level. Students will learn through a variety of approaches, such as read aloud stories, informative slides and graphics, drawing, building and sculpting, movement activities, video clips, games, discussion, repetition and more. Students will learn about a variety of animals and their natural habitats--temperate...
Students will learn 6 main biomes or habitats and be able to identify their main characteristics. Students will be able to identify animals that inhabit these biomes, and will observe and recreate their unique features in hands-on activities. Students will learn new vocabulary words related to the topic as well as interesting new facts.
I'm so excited to share my love of animals and their habitats with you! I've been teaching STEAM topics like animals to preschool through middle school for 6 years through an independent STEAM education company, and I'm really looking forward to connecting with new students here on Outschool. Not only will we be learning about animals and ecosystems, but we'll sneak in some colors, numbers and math, comparing and contrasting, observation, movement and more--all things that preK, kindergartners and 1st graders love to learn and practice!
Homework will be assigned on a weekly basis, but will be optional. Assignments will be used as a way to reinforce lesson material and to allow students to explore the topics in greater detail based on their own interests. Research, drawing, and fact-finding will be incorporated into these assignments, which will be shared and discussed at the beginning of the next class.
students should provide their own paper, pencil, colored pencils or crayons (optional), playdough or sculpting clay, building blocks such as lego-style bricks, duplos, bristle blocks, or wooden blocks
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
