Junior Creators: Robot Lab STEM / Steam Exploration
In this class, young learners will use movement, stories, games, and hands-on activities to explore the exciting world of robots--what are they? How do they learn? What do they do for us? Class ends with an "unplugged" coding activity.

Beginner Level
In this single class, young learners will have a blast learning all about robots--what they are, what they do, how they work, why we use them, and more. This course is chock full of age-appropriate sharing and interaction! Students will alternate between movement activities, video clips, a read-aloud selection, and drawing/building/sculpting challenges related to the theme. Content will be reinforced by these hands-on activities plus interactive discussion, with plenty of time to share their projects and ask questions. The lesson will include information on defining what make robots different from other machines, how they "learn" to do their work, the places we send them, and why. The class will end with a fun, creative project that allows students to "invent" their own robot and present it to the class. Your preschool child will be exposed to the following vocabulary terms throughout our activities and discussions: STEAM, robot, robotics, machine, computer, coding, man-made, terrain, invention, design method, and others. This is an introductory class, designed especially for pre-K, kindergarten and 1st grade level students. Through imaginative discussion and short lessons, games, creative projects, and sharing, students will develop STEAM skills such as observation, problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, building/drawing/sculpting and more. Math and science concepts are interwoven into lessons, as well as developing social skills. Because this class is for 4- to 7-year old children, I encourage parents to remain available during class to help with technical or learning issues whenever possible (not mandatory),especially for our younger learners (4-5 year olds). You may not remain on-camera per Outschool policy, but it is helpful if you can remain close by during class. I find this creates the best experience for the families who have taken my classes.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to define what a robot is. We will look for examples in the real world.
Students will be able to explain the difference between robots and regular machines.

From Miss Alex:
I'm so excited to share my love of these exciting adventurers with you! I've been teaching STEAM through fun, engaging topics like these to preschool through middle school for 6 years through an independent STEAM education company, and I'm really looking forward to connecting with new students here on Outschool. Not only will we be learning about robots and what makes them AWESOME--but we'll sneak in some colors, numbers and math, comparing and contrasting, observation, movement and more--all things that preK, kindergartners and 1st graders love to learn and practice!
