Class Experience
Let's draw our favorite things together! Each week, I'll ask for each student to share an idea of something they would like to draw in a future class. I'll add it to our "Wheel of Awesome Things" and then we'll spin to see what we'll be drawing at our next class! They sky is the limit--if you like dinosaurs, dragons, superheroes, arctic animals, Disney-inspired characters--it's up to all of YOU! Each class, we'll practice some basic techniques for observing and drawing our chosen topic...
Students will learn to identify basic shapes and features of selected topics (ie characters, animals, toys, etc). Students will learn techniques for recreating those themes on paper through guided instruction. Students will learn introductory background information about the featured topic, and will practice observation skills as we examine our reference page for their main features and shapes. Students will practice following directions, asking questions, and presentation skills.
I'm so excited to share my love of creating and drawing with you! I've been teaching STEAM and art classes through fun, engaging topics like these to preschool through middle school for 8 years through an independent STEAM education company, as well as at a local arts facility. I'm really looking forward to connecting with new students here on Outschool. Not only will we be sharing our excitement about our favorite things and learning to draw them together--but we'll sneak in some colors, shapes, comparing and contrasting, observation, art skills and more--all things that elementary artists love to learn and practice!
No homework.
Blank paper or a drawing pad/sketchbook (recommended). I prefer SPIRAL BOUND so that it may be opened flat for easier drawing. Pencils, pens, colored pencils, or other drawing/coloring supplies. 35 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Although the learners will be allowed to nominate topics, final approval will be provided by the teacher as to whether topics are age-appropriate and meet Outschool's guidelines. Please help your child to select a few ideas that you think would be a good fit for the class. A second or third choice would be a good idea to avoid disappointment if another child nominates the same or similar topic.
