This hands on lesson in art history will shine a spotlight on Impressionism. We will take a look at the origin of Impressionism, including key artists, with a focus on Monet as the father of Impressionism. Together, students will examine noteworthy paintings to discover and discuss the essential elements in Impressionistic art, such as brushstrokes, subjects, and colors. With this knowledge, students will watch my demonstration and create their own Impressionistic painting of a sunset using acrylic paint on canvas!
Learning Goals
Students will learn a brief history of Impressionism, including key figures (such as Monet), essential elements (such as brushstroke), and the contrasting art culture at the time the Impressionistic movement was emerging. To reinforce this new knowledge in a hands on and interactive way, students will learn how to create their own Impressionistic paintings of a sunset!

Supply List
Below is a list of the needed supplies for this class. Please have them ready prior to the start of class so that we can make the most of our time together! Also, I've included a packet with extras for you! -A medium sized canvas or canvas board (Anything around 6-12" will work!) -Acrylic paints (the cheaper, craft acrylics in bottles work the best!! They are typically $.50-1.00 each) in these colors: White (we will use the most white!), dark blue, light blue, yellow, and pink (***Please have any seals removed from the paints so they are ready to go. Keep them in the bottles, we will be pouring the paint and not using a pallet for this!) -A medium sized brush (around .5-.75" or so) -Paper towels -Cup of water -Optional mess protection!
