Description
Class Experience
Students will improve their reading comprehension skills and other literary skills, such as making predictions, performing character analysis, learning new vocabulary, sequencing, and summarizing. We will learn how to analyze the text while reading, and learn how to be thinkers while we read. In this class, I will ask higher order thinking questions to get the students thinking deeply about the text. Students will be able to ask questions, participate in class discussions, and can volunteer to read aloud if they would like! Please note that I do not require any student to read aloud, I only encourage students to read aloud if they so wish. This is a safe space for our students to enjoy a funny book about Junie B. Jones, and gain literacy skills that will encourage them to enjoy reading for a lifetime!
I am a certified teacher in grades pre-k though 6th in general education, special education, and ESL. I have my bachelor’s degree in elementary education, and I have been a teacher for five years. I have a huge passion for helping students with phonics, teaching students how to read, guiding students to comprehend what they read, and helping them find enjoyment in reading! This book club is an all-inclusive environment, so I encourage book lovers, reluctant readers, and struggling readers to join! I have many years of experience working with reluctant and struggling readers, and hope to help those students find enjoyment in the Junie B. Jones book series.
Students are encouraged to read the chapters for the week for homework with a parent or sibling. Sometimes students will have a short activity sheet for homework if the students did not complete the activity during class.
