In this six week course, students exiting 5th grade will be introduced to 6th-grade math concepts using real-world, hands-on activities, and virtual manipulatives.
Class experience
This class will be an introduction to sixth-grade math concepts for students that will be entering the sixth grade in the upcoming school year. The purpose of this class is to give future sixth-grade students a "jump start" on math they will be learning and encourage confidence. Virtual manipulatives will be available for student use and will be used during group instruction to increase concrete understanding. Students will gain a general overview and understanding of a few of the most challenging 6th-grade math concepts prior to entering the sixth grade. This class may also be valuable for students exiting sixth grade that would benefit from a math review prior to seventh grade.
Learners are asked to come prepared for each class with a notebook designated as a math notebook that can be used for note-taking and keeping track of new math vocabulary. Practice problems may also be kept in this notebook for ongoing discussions. Virtual manipulatives will be provided when needed.
