Jump Start to 7th Grade Math
My class focuses on the standards that students need to be successful for the entire year. We will work on becoming fluent in computation of integers and rational numbers. Also included is two step equations with rational numbers.

1 hour per week. Homework is the lesson Practice A or B. Used to help student prepare for mastery check.Assessment
The assessments are called mastery checks and are used to show students have mastered a skill at 80% or higher.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 7
This summer math class is a self-paced course that gives students a head start in understanding some of the most rigorous standards for 7th grade. The summer program consists of two units: rational number computation (fractions, decimals & integers) and one and two step equations. These two concepts are essential to success in 7th grade and pre-algebra (typically in 8th grade). How Class works When students begin class, they will see the Progress Tracker listed with the class for the Unit. The Progress Tracker is a road map for the unit. It gives students access to the instructional videos for each lesson, the practice assignments for each lesson, and the mastery check for each lesson. Students can decide how much time to spend on each part of the tracker, but there is a recommended time frame to help students stay on pace in order to complete the class in 8 weeks. The practice assignments have an answer key to allow for students to check their work when completed. The Mastery Check will be graded by the teacher with feedback given to the student within 24 hours. If the student does not score a 80% or higher, the teacher will recommend further practice and send additional support instructional video to help student meet the mastery score of 80%. Each week, the teacher will send feedback to parents on how the student is progressing in the self-paced course and offer additional support as needed.
Learning Goals
The two learning goals for this course are to be able to compute rational numbers and solve equations at grade level (7th grade).

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been teaching middle school math for the last 16 years. When Covid changed things in 2020, I taught for the first time exclusively online and I was able to connect with students at different levels and in different ways then before. I believe that every student can achieve academic excellence in math; we just have to figure it out together! I break down math concepts in several ways and reach students learning styles. As a middle school student, I often had teachers that only showed things one way and as a student I found myself trying to figure things out for myself. With that background, I am able to understand where students are at and I help them to meet their needs. I love math and I know that not everyone feels that way, with that in mind, I create a classroom that values our mistakes and works to bring math alive and to show the whys behind the math. In my past time, I love to enjoy the beach and I am an huge basketball fan. My favorite college team is Indiana University.
