Jump Start Into 1st Grade Reading!
In this week long class we will dust the cobwebs off those reading skills and make sure that your soon to be 1st grader is ready for the new school year!

In this class we will be reviewing all of the Kindergarten reading and phonics concepts that students will need in their 1st grade class including: letter sounds, long and short vowel sounds, CVC words, CVCV words, sight words, decoding, blending, and reading comprehension. Students will warm up their brains at the beginning of each class with simple concepts and then we will continue to build and review the more difficult concepts as we go. I will use direct instruction with the help of slides, hands on practice, music and games! Monday: Review letter sounds and sight words Tuesday: Short vowel sounds, CVC words Wednesday: Long vowel sounds, CVCV words Thursday: Decoding and blending sounds, Reading comprehension Friday: Overall review and extra practice on each student's weakest concept This class is recommended for students that finished Kindergarten and will be headed into 1st grade, but I can be flexible with any student that needs to review these reading skills. Students will need a small white board with a marker and eraser in order to participate in our class.
