In this ballet course, students will learn the basic steps of ballet and each week will focus on something new while reviewing the previous steps. Students will learn 2 dances during this class that they will perform on Week 6 and Week 12.

Class Experience

-Students will learn the fundamentals of ballet and will become confident with completing each step properly and safely. 
-Students will also learn new ballet vocabulary and how to pronounce the ballet terms. 
-Students will learn 2 ballet dances throughout this class that they will perform on Week 6 and Week 12. 
-Students will complete 2 reviews on Week 6 and Week 12 that will serve as a quiz/exam to see how students are doing with learning the new steps and to help them feel more confident about the new ballet steps.
I have been dancing for about 19 years and was trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, and lyrical/contemporary. I have performed in various roles such as Sugarplum Fairy, Dew Drop, and Lead Marzipan in the Nutcracker and Wendy and Smee in Peter Pan. I have been teaching ballet since 2018. Prior to that I worked as a student teacher from 2012-2016 and a substitute dance teacher from 2016-2018. From 2018-2020 I was the Artistic Director/Executive Director for my colleges Ballet Company where I was tasked with choreographing/organizing performances and teaching classes.
Students should review the new steps, positions, and ballet vocabulary/pronunciation between class. I will post a review on the class page that details all of the steps we learned, definitions for the steps, and pronunciation guidelines.
-Ballet shoes are recommended, but not required (please, no socks)
-Open space to safely dance in
-Water close by for breaks
-Exercise clothes such as t-shirt or tank top and leggings or ballet tights, leotard, and ballet skirt. (Please no crop tops/sports bra)
-If students are wearing a dress, they must wear shorts or leggings under
-Scarf/ribbon (I will send out a message for when students will need this)
-Teddy bear (I will send out a message for when students will need this)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Each week I will provide students with feedback for the steps and combinations that we complete to ensure that they are completing the steps properly and safely. I will also provide feedback during Week 6 and Week 12 during the review game. 
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
To prevent injury students should be supervised by a parent.
Students should dance in a safe and open space to prevent injury with no toys or objects around that could cause injury.
Students should dance in comfortable and appropriate clothing.
