This one-time class provides students with important and unique information about Japan coming from research and personal experiences as a foreigner living in that country.
Class experience
This class is for students interested in learning about Japan. We will review important information but also unique aspects that are not as well known about this country's culture. The class is structured as a lecture with key information to discuss as a group as we review it. I encourage students to share their experiences, thoughts and opinions of any information reviewed. Students will have a good understanding of Japan's geography, traditions, history, and culture at the completion of class.
I have lived in Japan for close to 2 years. My spouse is Japanese as well as his family who have provided a unique insight into the topics discussed in this class. I also love geography and social studies so I have studied and taught about different countries for 2 years.
Statistics come from the World's Factbook by the CIA (https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/japan/) History and cultural information comes from the Encyclopedia Britannica, personal experiences while living in Japan and interviews with Japanese people.
