Come join me for the second journey through Chris Colfer's The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns! This class is an exploration of literary devices, writing, science, history/social studies and the arts.

The Land of Stories is a series of books that follow siblings Alex and Conner as they are transported to a foreign land full of wonder and magic where they meet the very characters they grew up reading about in fairy tales! This class will be a series of multidisciplinary extension activities meant to enrich the reading of the novel. We will additionally have literature discussions which will help the students to make connections to the text and further analyze the overarching themes which run throughout the novel. (The novel will be read/listened to outside of class.) The classes will be tailored to the specific interests and learning needs of the learners enrolled, but will loosely be organized as follows: WEEK ONE: Chapters 1-5 -Vocabulary instruction -Character traits through fairy tales -Comprehension game! WEEK TWO: Chapters 6-10 -Vocabulary activity -Literature discussion -Analyze villains across tales WEEK THREE: Chapters 11-15 -Literature discussion -Figurative language instruction/activity -Comprehension game WEEK FOUR: Chapters 16-20 -Story Elements in fairy tales activity -Comprehension game WEEK FIVE: Chapters 21-25 -Guided writing of a fairy tale -Art activity -Comprehension game WEEK SIX: Chapters 26-31 -Present writing pieces -Final trivia game!

Supply List
The students will need to purchase or borrow a copy of The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns, common art supplies will be needed for some classes (colored pencils, markers, watercolor paints, paintbrush, mixed media paper). All other hand-outs, including a comprehension packet will be supplied by the teacher.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
