Class Experience
Students will develop a learning plan with the teacher, and then discuss expectations for the upcoming weeks. There will be ongoing communication and support throughout the week, as well as asynchronous learning help and clarification through short form video via parental approval using educational technology. Once the teacher and student discuss learning goals and set a plan of action, students will receive ongoing support facilitation and instructional guidance through a 6th-grade math...
Students will actively participate in effortful learning both individually and collectively. Students will demonstrate an understanding of mathematics by representing problems in multiple ways. Students will complete tasks with mathematical fluency. Students will engage in discussions that reflect on the mathematical thinking of self and others. Students will use patterns and structure to help them understand and connect mathematical concepts. Students will assess the reasonableness of solutions. Students will apply mathematics to real-world solutions.
I have taught middle school mathematics in the public school system for about 4 years. I am certified to teach in the state of Florida. I have taught 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade mathematics to special education students on a general education curriculum. I follow the standard pacing guide and mathematics to middle school students with severe cognitive disabilities in a self-contained classroom and other unique education settings.
Home learning assignments will be assigned according to student need and educational plan related to this flex course. They will be utilized by educational technologies, given deadlines and instructions.
A computer, tablet or mobile device is required to access educational technologies to make a free account with parental consent. The links or code will be provided by the teacher. Also, I highly recommend students use index cards, a sheet divider, a blank sheet of paper and a dry-erase marker.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will receive weekly assessments to measure their learning progress. This will provide a detailed report with learning data.
No live meetings, and an estimated 4+ hours per week outside of class.
