Description
Class Experience
Students will increase command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking for a newspaper or media.
I hold a bachelor's degree in Philosophy with a double concentration in Fashion Design and Interior Design from the World University of Puerto Rico. My studies included studying English where I refined the areas of writing and speech and I did few playwriting scripts. I hold a master's degree in Varying Exceptionalities from the Central University of Orlando. My studies also included getting certified in English, language arts, reading, and playwriting teaching different scenes and strategies to practice coworkers teamwork, and making material comprehensible to special education students sensitive to certain subjects due to past experiences. As an ESOL (English Student of Other Language) teacher, I taught English. I planned numerous Theater Readers setting with props, characters, and stage to help students to increase fluency in reading and written language. I taught them to qualify to pass the end-of-the-year English tests and as students with excellent command of the English language. From 2001 forward, test results showed an increment of 75% of ESOL and intensive reading students. I collaborated with another teacher in middle school in the making of year textbooks. As a parent, I helped my own children to write papers at the high school and college level and perform in dramas dressed in colonial times.
Students must work on their writing pieces to present as journalists at the end of the course.
Students' writing pieces will demonstrate command of strategies to present as newscasters. Their progress will be assessed informally during class participation and the progress of their research.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
I abide by the school ethics I worked with for fifteen years: values and principles that guide the behavior of people and organizations in relation to their responsibilities and decision making. The slides have been selected carefully with due admiration and respect for cultural differences. Diversity is beautiful, accepted, and encouraged. Nevertheless, there might be any sensitive information due to family values and past experiences unaware to Mrs. Algarin. Parents might choose to sit sporadically to ensure a safe and productive learning environment conducive to learning.
