55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
One of the most important relationships we have in life is our relationship with ourselves. In this class, we will spend an hour celebrating ourselves through journaling. Learners will come to class with a photo of their younger self. We will take some time to encouragingly write to our younger selves. We will then spend some time celebrating our present self by journaling about accomplishments. Finally, we will practice love for our future self by writing about our hopes and dreams. Learners will have the opportunity to share about their writing should they feel comfortable.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to express qualities about themselves that they appreciate. Students will practice introspective thought. Students will leave class with a framework for future sessions of self-compassion journaling.
Other Details
Supply List
A *copy* of a photo of the student at a younger age for the writing-to-my-past-self journal entry. This will be glued to the journal page, so I highly recommend that this be a copy and not an original photo. A journal or some lined paper for creating journal entries A sharpened pencil with an eraser Glue or tape to affix the photo to the journal page Some colored pencils, markers, or crayons should the learner choose to decorate their pages
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I began journaling in elementary school and have been doing so ever since! I’ve benefited remarkably from this habit, so I would like to make a space for young people to give it a try or deepen their practice. Additionally, I’ve taught three years of third grade in a college-preparatory school, which is helpful when it comes to classroom management and creating curriculum.
