1 in-class hoursClass Experience
This two-part class will entice your child to venture outdoors by taking an abbreviated journey compared to Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to study the plants and animals that live in your backyard, then journaling their amazing findings. DAY 1 --We will start our time together with a trek through Lewis and Clark's expedition, detailing their voyage with colorful maps showing the river journey, and historical drawings taken from their journals documenting animals. --In our class, we will learn about the Louisiana Purchase, and why Lewis and Clark were chosen for the journey by President Thomas Jefferson. We'll see a rebuilt replica photo of the boats used on their river journey, and the vital role of Shoshone Native American woman, Sacagawea, played in guiding the group as westward expansion affected relations with Native Americans. --We'll condense the 120 animals they documented down to TWO ANIMALS: the Prairie Dog and Coyote. --Today's focus on the TWO ANIMALS will be a launching point for your child to explore different collections, of animals and plants, in their backyard. --We end the lesson with important vocabulary words, and their meanings, to expand your child's language development. --Your student will be provided two (2) journaling pages to document their backyard findings, which they will share with the class during DAY 2. DAY 2 --We will welcome back your student with sharing their Journaling Pages with the class. --We'll continue the trek through Lewis and Clark's expedition, detailing their voyage with additional colorful maps showing the river journey, and historical drawings taken from their journals documenting plants. --In our class, we will learn what Lewis and Clark did when they reached the Pacific Ocean, and how the multilingual Sacagawea's skills as a navigator and translator were invaluable. --We'll condense the 170 plants Lewis and Clark documented down to TWO PLANTS: the Osage Orange, and Soapweed (Yucca). --We end the lesson with important vocabulary words, and their meanings, to expand your child's language development. --We'll end our adventure for your student's backyard voyage with a reward: a printable Jefferson Peace Medal! I can't wait to have *Lautz of Fun* with your child!
