Journal Time: Come Write With Me! (Ages 7-9)
What's included
1 live meeting
30 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
There is something special about a journal of dated entries filled with your own thoughts, memories and creative writings. When you look back it, it’s almost like a peek into who you were at the time and it can become a frame of reference for the future. Journal Time is an opportunity for students to exercise their creativity as well as practice their writing skills. Each week learners will be given a new writing prompt to spark their imaginations. Some journal entries might turn into a story, others might become a personal narrative, a list, a joke, a comparative essay or even a drawing. Each class will be unique! We will begin each class by discussing the week’s writing prompt and brainstorming ideas together. The students will then be given time to write independently. I will be available during this time if individual students have questions or need guidance. At the end of class, students will be given the opportunity to share their journal entries with the class, if desired. Sharing and listening to others’ entries is a great opportunity for learning as well as encouragement. Each class is a stand-alone class and does not build on previous classes, so feel free to join in any time! *Enrollment fees are per learner, not per household. Siblings who fall within the class age range are welcome to participate, but must be enrolled separately.*

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is LaChelle Rickett, but you can call me Mrs. R. :) I love to find creative ways to make learning interactive, engaging and fun. Did you know that if you make a memory with a book, you are likely to remember that book for the rest of your life? When learners have a chance to see how content areas overlap and relate to each other, the pathways created in their brains allow for better recall and long term memory. For this reason, I love to teach integrated lessons that combine a variety of interests with a good dose of fun!
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, a Psychology minor and a TESOL certification. I have taught in traditional classroom settings as well as in home education for a total of 14 years and my love for teaching and learning continues to grow with each passing year.
Since middle school, I have also had a passion for volleyball. I had the opportunity to play in both high school and college and I love everything about the game. After college, I continued to be involved in the game through coaching. I still teach volleyball skills and techniques to my own children and I look forward to teaching those skills here on Outschool.
So, whether we are learning language arts through storytelling, discovering the chemistry of ice cream, drawing in grammar class, or serving up a volleyball, we are sure to discover the joy of learning together. I can't wait to see you in my classroom!
