In this three months course, children learn read/spell words with digraphs/diphthongs, learn tricky words and read/write sentences. Children will develop fluency in reading/spelling and practice reading decodable books. Ensures student engagement through songs, stories, and actions for each sound • Enhances language comprehension through listening, speaking, and reading • Develops phonological and phonemic awareness • Develops fluency in reading and spelling words, phrases and sentences • Requires the use of audio and video for active participation Prior phonics knowledge is required. Students should know the letters of the alphabet and should be able to read words with single letter sounds (a-z). Students should be able to focus, listen and follow the teacher's instructions. Each class builds on the skills taught before it. So students are encouraged to attend all sessions to achieve better results. Class Schedule/Schedule of Topics Week 1, Class One: Learn the digraph /ai/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Class Two: Learn the letter sound /j/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Week 2, Class One: Learn digraph /oa/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Class Two: Learn the digraph /ie/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Week 3, Class One: Learn the digraphs /ee/ /or/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Class Two: Learn letter sound /z/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Week 4, Class One: Learn the letter sound /w/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Class Two: Learn the digraph/ng/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Week 5, Class One: Learn the letter sound /v/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Class Two: Learn the digraphs /oo/ /OO/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Week 6, Class One: Learn the letter sound /y/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Class Two: Learn the letter sound /x/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Week 7, Class One: Learn the digraph/ch/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Week 9, Class One: Learn the diphthong /ou/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Class Two: Learn the diphthong /oi/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Week 10, Class One: Learn the digraph /ue/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Class Two: Learn the digraph /er/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Week 11, Class One: Learn the digraph /ar/, identify focus sounds in words, read/spell words and book/sentences with the focus sound, and games/activities to reinforce reading/spelling skills. Students complete foundational level of Jolly Phonics Pupil Book 1. Class Two: Revision of all the sounds and tricky words. Activities and games to develop fluency in reading/spelling. Week 12, Class One: Revision of all the sounds and tricky words. Activities and games to develop fluency in reading/spelling. Students are assessed individually and parents receive written report. Class Two: Students are assessed individually and parents receive a written report. Meet the teacher
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am an early childhood educator with experience spanning 15 years. I am passionate about teaching English to young learners. I am an accredited Jolly Phonics Trainer certified to teach children and adults in the Jolly Phonics methodology. I am also a certified LETRS® teacher (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling), handwriting specialist and Phonics Intervention Tutor, trained to help children excel in English language. I can also help special needs students to improve their skills in English.
I have six years of experience tutoring children, from the ages of 4-12 with different base learning abilities, in phonics and saw markedly great improvement. I have also worked with children that have dyslexia or other learning disabilities. Over my tutoring years, I have worked with over 500 children and with effective research proven methodology, I have helped them fill their learning gap.
Additionally, I have designed English Language Curriculum for two schools, trained their teachers, and successfully implemented the Jolly Phonics Methodology on a larger scale.
