Class Experience

Have a learner interested in history? Want them to learn about ALL of the history they may not know about? Check out this awesome Join us for Juneteenth class where we will discuss this holiday. If your child has heard about it, or if you understand the value of teaching a full picture of history: this class is perfect for your learner. Our classes are quick, hands on, and fun with project based learning activities added to make it even more engaging. Who says history has to be boring?

In this class we will cover:
Vocabulary
Geography
The History of Juneteenth
Why it is important
How is it is celebrated
Create a Juneteenth collage (either digital or physical product)
A 13 page handout is included with the class which includes vocabulary cards, comprehension questions, a project based learning activity, and more. We find this makes learning sticks and makes a great portfolio of learning before, during, and after the class is complete. Printing is never required and students are free to bring just drawing materials to complete the project if they prefer.

We use discussion lectures, videos not to exceed 5 minutes, and slides while teaching. Students do not need any prior experience to take this class.

This class is structured to promote engagement, curiosity, and creative thinking among learners. We will use slides, videos, discussions, and games to interact with our learners.

My teaching style is very laid back, but I also like to encourage learners to participate. I like to be sure all of our students have a chance to speak.

Here is the typical class structure
5-10 minutes discussion on topic
20 minutes of discussions, lectures, and videos
5-10 minute project

We do a lot of discussion in this class. Oral discussion is a research-backed way to help students build comprehension skills as well as develop and helping to retain information. I ask a lot of questions and may call on students to help build rapport and confidence. I encourage participation but am sure to be positive and kind when giving feedback.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
We do talk about enslavement in this course in a very age appropriate manner. This could be tough for sensitive learners but after teaching about enslavement for a number of years, we have developed ways to be sensitive to this.
