Description
Class Experience
I have a Master's degree in Writing for Children and Young Adults. John Green is one of my absolute favorite writers! (In grad school, I wrote and directed a short film titled I Heart John Green.) I absolutely love how his books sound like they are narrated by real teenagers. Oftentimes I forget I am reading a book written by a middle aged man. As an author, that is the ultimate goal of all of my works. So reading John Green actually inspires me to be a better writer! I hope to use students' enthusiasm for John Green to pass on this knowledge that I learn every time I pick up one of his books.
Students should have a familiarity with John Green's writing and his books, but they won't need any specific books or outside materials.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Green's books are controversial because they contain references to teenage sex, some language, and death. They are not appropriate for all readers. Parents should determine whether or not their student is ready for Green's books.
