Joan of Arc led the army of Charles VII to victory in 14th century France. At the time, many said she was possessed by the devil. Today, she is a patron saint of France. Most of us know a little bit about Joan of Arc's background, but let's get even deeper into her story. We'll start by learning about The Hundred Years War, a war that had already been waging for 75 years when Joan was born. Through an interactive Nearpod lesson, we'll discuss her story, from her birth until her death at 19 years old. Then, we'll look at primary sources, real testimony from her trials. We'll use those sources to draw conclusions about Joan of Arc. How did she accomplish all that she did at such a young age? Learners will be encouraged to take the lead in the discussion and use evidence to support their arguments.
Learning Goals
Learners will be able to describe the life of Joan of Arc
Learners will be able to use evidence to support their arguments
Other Details
Parental Guidance
While Joan was being held captive by the English, there were several attempts to sexually assault her. This is important to the story as she decided to wear men's clothing to better fight off her attackers and this was added to the case against her. I will not get into any graphic detail in our class discussion and will only say that she was "attacked" by her captors, but learners may figure out what is meant by this. I will keep any discussion that arises very brief.
