Description
Class Experience
This open ended class encourages creating. The suggested materials list is included for the purpose of generating ideas and making sturdy jewelry. Learners will be asked to give and receive peer feedback about their projects. Projects do not have specific requirements. Carly can demonstrate: -Using a head/eye pin (useful in making a beaded earring) -Using a clasp and closing a crimp (useful in making beaded bracelets or necklaces) -Crochet in jewelry -Upcycled jewelry Day 1 - Intro and...
My crafting habit roots back to my early years sitting with Mom and Oma (who were usually knitting, but sometimes embroidering, while talking and listening to the tv) while being included... or appeased with a ''craft''. It might have been a string of beads, or yarn and plastic needle. My passion grew and continues to grow. I have lots of ideas to share and work with many mediums. I got excited about making jewelry in middle school. Eventually I was making so much of it that I couldn't wear or give it all away. In high school I began selling jewelry on commission at locally owned stores. My experience with my small business won me a $5000 scholarship toward my first year of university.
1 file available upon enrollmentMaterials are SUGGESTED. Each project will be different and will require unique materials. Please message Carly with any questions. -Jewelry findings (visual guide accessible upon enrollment) such as clasps, crimps, head pins, jump rings, earring hooks, and eye pins. -Cord for making necklaces and bracelets. Tiger tail wire is my favourite, but fishing line or stretchy beading cord will also work. -Beads - size and colour is up to you! -Old jewelry (for taking apart) -- thrift store treasures are often cheaper than buying at craft stores! -Interesting fabric/lace/ ribbons (optional) -Copper wire (optional) -Scissors -Pliers (IMPORTANT for crimping!) Needle nose are good. If you have round pliers they are GREAT for wire work. -crochet hook (optional) -Anything else? Get creative! Share your ideas in the classroom page :)
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 4+ hours per week outside of class.
Hands on activities and on-camera learning can be a tricky match. It is sometimes helpful to have an adult close by to help (especially with crimping - hand strength is required!).
