In this ongoing coding club, students dive into the exciting world of computer science through real JavaScript programming using the beginner-friendly p5.js library. Whether it’s building fast-paced games 🎮, eye-catching animations ✨, or interactive digital art 🎨, learners will unlock the power of code in a way that’s fun, creative, and accessible. Each week introduces a new project or challenge designed to teach key programming concepts such as variables, conditionals, loops, arrays, functions, and events—all while making something awesome 💻. From platformer games and avatar builders to animated stories and mini-music visualizers 🎶, students learn by building projects they’re proud to show off. 🔍 What will be taught: Core JavaScript concepts including syntax, logic, and structure How to use p5.js to create visual and interactive programs Step-by-step breakdowns of real coding projects like games and animations Problem-solving, debugging, and remixing existing code creatively 🧠 What topics will be covered: Game development fundamentals (collision, scoring, character movement) Animation techniques (loops, frame rate, image control) Interactive art and design using mouse/keyboard input Project planning and independent coding skills 🗓️ How is the class structured? Each session follows a predictable, supportive routine: Warm-up & Intro (5–10 min): Icebreakers, project previews, and coding recaps 🧊 Live Coding Lesson (30–35 min): Learners follow along as we build the week’s project together step-by-step 👨💻 Creative Time (10–15 min): Students personalize or expand their projects with teacher support 🛠️ Wrap-Up & Showcase (5 min): Volunteers share their screen, get feedback, and celebrate wins 🎉 🎯 Teaching style: Our instructors use engaging, high-energy teaching with a clear, patient, and encouraging tone. We explain concepts in simple, kid-friendly terms and provide plenty of guidance without overwhelming beginners. Learners are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and experiment with their code 🧪. 💬 Learner interaction: This class is highly interactive! Students will participate in: Live coding with guided instruction Real-time discussion and Q&A ❓ Mini-challenges to test understanding 🧩 Optional project sharing and peer feedback 👏 Whether your learner is just starting out or already has some coding under their belt, this club offers an engaging, low-pressure way to practice coding every week, build skills over time, and develop a love for computer science 🚀. 🎨 Themes: May 12th - June 8th: Amazing Animals June 9th - July 6th: Abstract Art July 7th - August 3rd: Green Future August 4th - August 31st: Platformer games September 1st - September 28th: Magical Creatures September 29th - October 26th: Planetary Exploration Please Note: This class runs on a set schedule, with lessons progressing through a 4-week cycle.
