Class experience
Class needs at lease 6 enrolled learners to run as designed. Join anytime, stay for as many weeks as you'd like! In this weekly book club, students will meet once each week to share highlights of the book of the week, with a focus on the experiences of the main characters in the book. We will also look closely at and talk about how the main characters exemplify life skills, such as courage, integrity, perseverance, etc. Ultimately, we will discuss the lived experiences of the main characters...
English Language Arts skills: Analyzing; Listening; Speaking; Summarizing; Reading; Writing
Please note, the suggested books contain characters who face varying degrees of bullying, discrimination, hardship, and oppression. The weekly discussions will "center" the actions, experiences, feelings, etc. of the characters who unjustly face the bullying, discrimination, oppression, and/or racism. As I guide these discussions with students, I will use my experience as a restorative practices facilitator and a racial justice/antiracism advocate. Ultimately, we will focus on the lived experiences of the characters in order to better understand history. English Language Arts skills: Analyzing; Listening; Speaking; Summarizing; Reading; Writing Most books listed are rated strongly for cultural knowledge and meaning.
Learners will come to class having already read the book listed for a given week. See schedule in section titled, "Description".
