As opposed to just getting exposure to the Japanese alphabet in the one time class, in this multi day class we will take 3~5 letters per class for 10 weeks to go over all 46 letters of the hiragana! The Japanese language, letters, and symbols may seem complicated, but it all boils down to 46 letters! I know this is a little bit more than the ABCs, but it follows a simple phonetic pattern, so this class is to help students get familiar with the Japanese sounds and pronunciation through song! The Japanese language is made up of three main types of letters. First is Hiragana which is what all the Japanese children start out learning. Next comes Katakana which is used to write foreign words but use the same 46 letters as Hiragana which are both phonetic. The last type is Kanji which is the Chinese characters used in the Japanese language. These are symbols that often look like pictures that carry meaning and can be spelled out in Hiragana. We will have some time to sing, activity to learn the letters of the week, and have some time to practice writing them! Please come ready to learn with a pencil and paper, or whiteboard and markers! week 1: あいうえお aiueo week 2: かきくけこ ka ki ku ke ko week 3: さしすせそ sa shi su se so week 4: たちつてと ta chi tsu te to week 5: なにぬねの na ni nu ne no week 6: はひふへほ ha hi hu he ho week 7: まみむめも ma mi mu me mo week 8: やゆよ ya yu yo week 9: らりるれろ ra ri ru re ro week 10: わをん wa wo nn
