Characterized by intensity, precision, and a sense of celebration, Taiko Drumming emphasizes and enhances physical agility, confidence and musicality. Come join us as we learn about elements of history and culture, rhythm concepts, and etiquette within a traditional Japanese setting. In addition to learning history and cultural aspects of the art form, learners will strengthen coordination, listening skills and fundamental rhythm concepts. The discipline of Taiko Teamwork also builds focus, confidence, creative expression and musicality.
Based in Asia for 10 years, I was the recipient of the Japanese Ministry of Culture Bunkacho grant for the extended study of the Folk performing and traditional arts. As a musician and teacher in the US for over 15 years, I’m privileged to share my passion for world music and culture through workshops and performances of drumming, music and storytelling.
