Join us for a fun story time with Eric Carle's “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” in Japanese! In this class, we will sing, read the story aloud in Japanese, then play an interactive drama game inspired by the story! We will learn a few Japanese words using pictures and movement-based activities which will help students better commit the new vocabulary to long-term memory; but the main goal here is to have fun while being immersed in language through music, storytelling, and drama! Teacher expertise and credentials
I was born and raised in Shizuoka, Japan, on the foot of beautiful Mt. Fuji. After getting my bachelor's degree in Spanish and ESL teaching license from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, I got my acting training at Foothill Theatre Conservatory in San Francisco Bay Area. While performing in theatre productions, I've been teaching languages and musical theatre classes for a wide range of age groups- from preschoolers to high school students.
In my language teaching, I love incorporating music, movement, and drama. Using these methods not only makes learning fun but also highly effective as it combines different modalities such as audio, visual, and kinesthetic. I strongly believe that this approach helps students build confidence, enhance their creativity, and improve their overall communication skills.
As my hobby, I've been learning Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Italian, Hawaiian, and ASL (American Sign Language). I love learning different languages and cultures because it enriches my life with brand new perspectives. Looking at my own culture from the outside has helped me realize and embrace just how unique I am, but has also shown how similar I am to everyone else no matter their language or background. Ultimately, it's that kind of discovery I want all learners to experience with my class.
