Homework
1-2 hours per week. Homework worksheets will be provided on the Outschool platform classroom forum for students to practice writing and reading individually. ** Homework completion is not required, but recommended for the Japanese learning experience. All completed homework is reviewed by Teacher Lynn リン 先生.
Assessment
Students will answer questions on the Outschool platform classroom forum to assess their understanding. Self-assessment activities will also be provided. Links for the Vocabulary Review on Memrise and Quizlet, and Game on Kahoot will be provided by Teacher Lynn リン 先生.

Welcome to the course 'Japanese Katakana Writing and Vocabulary Semester’ with Teacher Lynn (リン 先生). ❤️

The Japanese language has become extremely popular due to anime, J-pop and J-dramas! 🎎
This easy-going course is aimed at learners who are interested in starting or continuing their Japanese language journey. Discover Japan through its language and culture! ✨

Learning Japanese in this self-pace course is at the learner’s independent pace, own time, and convenience. Learners will follow along as if it was a set of on-going live classes. Learners may watch the pre-recorded videos (containing Teacher Lynn リン 先生), complete the writing and vocabulary practice, homework activities, write their in-class assignments, and play the review and games any time during the course! There are no live zoom classes.  

In this course, learners will be introduced to Japanese writing systems with a focus on Japanese Katakana. Learners will learn how to write Japanese Katakana and how to write their names in Japanese. 📚
Learners will decipher a series of Katakana vocabulary, including animals, clothing, countries, and fruits to their English meaning! Learners will be surprised by the Japanese they already know! In the last lesson, learners will review and play games. 🎮

This course is 10 lessons long. Videos, Discussion, Games and/or Worksheets will be provided every lesson.



WRITING ACTIVTIES LESSONS

Lesson 1: Writing Japanese Katakana Vowels and Consonants Activity 📝

+ Learners will practice writing vowels and consonants for one of the Japanese writing systems - Katakana.

Lesson 2: Writing Names in Japanese Activity 🖋️

+ Learners will learn how to write and practice writing their names in Japanese.

Lesson 3: Katakana Vocabulary Game 🔍

+ Learners will decipher a series of Japanese Katakana words.

Lesson 4: Writing Review and Games 🎮

+ Learners will review and play games!

 

VOCABULARY ACTIVITIES LESSONS

Lesson 5: Animals Vocabulary 🐶

+ Learners will decipher the vocabulary of Animals in Japanese.

Lesson 6: Fruit Vocabulary 🍊

+ Learners will decipher the vocabulary of Fruit in Japanese.

Lesson 7: Countries Vocabulary 🌍

+ Learners will decipher the vocabulary of Countries in Japanese.

Lesson 8: Clothing Vocabulary 👘

+ Learners will decipher the vocabulary of Clothing in Japanese.

Lesson 9: Vocabulary Review and Games 🎮

+ Learners will review vocabulary and play games!


FINAL REVIEW

Lesson 10: Japanese Katakana Writing and Vocabulary Final Review and Games 🎮

+ Learners will review all katakana writing, vocabulary, play games, and check their answers!

2) Create discussions on the in-class assignment of the lesson 💬
3) Attach Homework worksheets to the classroom 📝
4) Provide vocabulary practice on Memrise and Quizlet, and game on Kahoot 🎮

Learners are highly recommended to participate in the class activities, questions, and games (the Outschool platform classroom, Memrise, Kahoot, Lexilogos, Quizlet and Youtube are used). Learners will also be recommended to scan or take photos of their completed homework activities.

Learners are highly recommended to complete the following tasks by the end of the course date:
1) Watch the video lessons ▶️
2) Complete their in-class assignment 📝
3) Scan or take photos of their completed homework worksheets (private message Teacher Lynn リン 先生) 📑
4) Individually practice the vocabulary on Memrise and Quizlet, and play the game on Kahoot 🎮

In this class, all Japanese is accompanied with English and Rōmaji (Roman alphabet) for easy reading and following along. No prior Japanese language learning is required - Easy Japanese-y!

Teacher Lynn (リン 先生) completed her Master’s degree in Oita, Japan. She was a teaching assistant for Japanese middle school, high school, and university in-person classes in Japan. She has been living in Japan for 7 years (since 2017). Teacher Lynn not only intensely studied the Japanese language, but fell in love with Japanese culture and discovered the passion for sharing such a beautiful language with students. She has been a private Japanese online tutor for over 5 years (since 2019).
