Class Experience
In this 12-week online course, students will progress to the level of Early Intermediate in the Japanese language. This class focuses on speaking, listening, and basic reading/writing skills. Class members will meet 2 times per week. The first meeting of each week will be lecture-style (with plentiful interaction) and focus on introducing the Japanese phrases for the week and discussing study strategies. This class is taught in English.
Students will learn to build sentences in Japanese, speak and understand essential everyday phrases, and read Hiragana and Katakana.
I lived in Japan for 2 years. I have studied the language extensively and speak Japanese at an intermediate level. I also have experience teaching languages.
Students will be expected to practice their assigned Japanese phrases between class meetings. Each week we will learn 10 characters and 10-20 words or short phrases (the longer the phrases, the less will be assigned).
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
