30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one time class, your child will be encouraged through positive reinforcement and upbeat games to interact in Japanese with me and other students. By the end of this class, your child will not only know and understand several different colors and animals, they will also be able to use these words in a basic sentence structure "I like/I dislike". Japanese is a language that is completely different than everything we already know in English. I believe that the best method for successful introduction into a foreign language, especially one with a notoriety for being difficult, is to have the learner use and speak that language as much as possible. This will NOT be an immersion class, but your child WILL be excited and WANT to speak in Japanese as much as possible. If your child can jump right into the language and begin speaking immediately, they are more likely to be excited about their pursuit and be more willing to press forward in their new language. This is my goal for your child. They will leave this class excited about their new Japanese words and will want to use their new sentences with you again and again.
Learning Goals
In this class, we will cover all basic colors and a variety of animals, as suits the interests of the learners in class. We will learn the basic sentence structure for "I like" and "I dislike".

Teacher expertise and credentials
After living in Japan for over a year with native Japanese speakers and then spending a year studying Japanese in university, I became fluent in this unique and fun language! I've since spent several years as a Japanese Language Coordinator and have worked as a freelance translator for nearly a decade. All of that to say: I speak Japanese. But more importantly, I LOVE Japanese and all the nuances of their language and culture. Being an isolated island nation, Japan has had the chance to develop things unheard of anywhere in the world, like a written language created by and only used by women, or a language that doesn't have a place for multiples (there is no word for 'apples', just 'apple') ! Between sushi, ninjas, and sumos, everyone seems to know a little bit about Japan and their culture, but in classes with me, you'll learn the language while also learning appreciation for and excitement about a world that is different from anywhere else on the planet.
