Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
Do you want to know more about Japanese culture? Do you dream about visiting Japan? Learn more about food, entertainment, and traditions in Japan.

This class is taught with Canva presentation slides and images. Video clips of no longer than 3-5 minutes will be shown. The purpose of videos is to deepen student understanding and to be a topic for discussion.

Students will be given many opportunities throughout the class to ask questions. I like to engage students in discussion. I will invite students with any knowledge or experience of Japan to share what they know during the class.

Japanese culture is a broad topic. Food, entertainment, and traditions vary from region to region and change over time. There is no way to properly cover every relevant topic in detail. During this one-time class, students will have the opportunity to learn more about this rich culture and can ask questions about aspects of Japanese culture that most interest them.

To learn more about Japanese culture, consider enrolling in Journey to Japan, an ongoing class that focuses on a different topic each week ranging from fashion and anime to emperors and the kimono.

Research for this course is based on my experiences living and working in Japan for two years. I also collaborate with friends of mine who are Japanese who still live in Japan when deciding on content to teach in this course. I think the best way to learn about different cultures is to communicate directly with people who are part of these cultures.

All materials and information in this course comes from Japanese individuals and from people who have spent time properly researching Japanese culture, history, and traditions.

Students don't need to have any previous knowledge about Japan to join the class. Everyone who is interested in learning more about Japan is more than welcome.

Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to seeing you in class!

While researching content for this class, I make an effort to collaborate with friends of mine who are Japanese. I look for sources that are written by people from Japan and/or who are well-qualified to speak about the topic. I lived and worked in Japan for two years. My intention is to share what I have learned about Japan with students in a way that is respect of Japanese culture and traditions.
