PLEASE NOTE: This class is NOT for beginners. Class will be conducted entirely in Japanese, and students are expected to follow instructions and to be able speak in simple sentences in Japanese. This class is geared towards children who: * Already speak Japanese and are interested in maintaining and building their skills. * Have extensive background (i.e. parent speaks to them in Japanese, or they live/lived in Japan, etc.) but may not yet speak fluently * Can understand most of the...
This class is taught in Japanese.
Students will practice their Japanese skills through various activities: Listening: listening to Teacher's explanations and instructions, Story Time, and listening to classmates. Speaking: Sharing about themselves, singing, and answering problems. Reading: Students will learn to read a few letters of Hiragana, the Japanese alphabet, per week.
No homework will be assigned; however, one of the keys to language learning and maintenance is repeated exposure. We ask all parents help facilitate learning by providing lots of exposure to Japanese at home during the week. Here are some suggestions: * Age appropriate Japanese TV shows * Reading Japanese books to your child * Speaking to your child in Japanese if one or more parents speak it. Additionally, teacher may provide optional hiragana worksheets for parents to use as a resource, if they would like to work on practicing writing hiragana at home.
We typically do monthly origami craft, so I recommend purchasing an assorted color pack of origami paper. Learners will be asked to prepare common items such as: origami crayons paper scissors In such cases, teacher will notify students/parents prior to class via message posts in the classroom.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Each week a selected age-appropriate Japanese book will be read aloud during story time.
