Class Experience

Student will learn about the art of Japanese Ink Painting, rooted in history and created as a form of meditation.  Students will then paint the basics of Sumi-e and create bamboo stalks. The class will be 30 minutes in length in order for the students to have time to create their art.

Supply List
Students will need Black Tempura Paint watered down to 1 part paint to 3 parts water, a Japanese Maruyama or Gyokuran Brush ( a long tapered paint brush will work as well), white heavy duty paper (water color paper or construction paper will work), a toothpick and a paper towel and a cup to hold the paint/water combination.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I have taught Sumi-e to many elementary ages students using Chroyu Brushes and Gyukuran Brushes.  This type of art is very relaxing and allows the painter to create beautiful and simplistic artwork.
